Want to use those empties to make a beautiful lamp rather than just throw them away? There are some really decorative bottles around these days particularly Gin bottles that are ideal. So no matter what your tipple, you can be creative, just take a look at what you can do with your empties…
Our expandable bungs can fit various size bottles, with a choice of 8 sizes and three finishes. Our lamp bungs have a screw slot so, as you turn the screw, it expands a couple of millimetres to get a nice snug fit for your bottle neck. Choose your lamp holder, some earthed lamp flex, and an inline switch and you are well on your way to creating your own unique lamp. You can also visit our Bottle Lamp Kit making page where you will be led through the products you may need if you are not so sure what’s needed or indeed possible!
Our three smaller sized bungs have a small decorative cap; perfect for making a lamp from a classic wine or champagne bottle, just add one of our side-entry lampholders for your flex access if you don’t want to drill a hole in the bottle.
Lamps and Light’s customer, Andy from Andy Dane Photography sent us a lovely photo of his project … thank you for sharing it with us Andy!!!
So whatever your tipple and whatever the size of your bottle, we’ve got a bung for it!

Hi from Australia
I’m wanting to turn a 700ml Crystal Head Vodka Bottle into a lam. Would you have a bung to fit this bottle. The opening is 24mm
Regards
Trish
Hi Trish, For transforming Bottles & Demi John’s into Lamps Please use our Bottle and Ceramic Table Lamp Kits page of the website. Here you go through our kit making process selecting the colours and styles of products in order to create your very own bespoke design. We have 22-24mm bung that should fit your bottle.
Hi,
Would I be able to use one of your 19-21mm bungs as a wick holder to upscale my bottle into a oil filled light I.e. is it heat resistant?
Thanks
Hi Brett, I would say no as the bung is made from rubber sorry.
Yep i am after the same concept, the bulb fitted inside the bottle, so I guess the bung should be put into the neck of the bottle from inside (after cutting the bottom of the bottle off)
Hi Anne, OK I think we have worked out a solution. If you add a half inch cord grip and a half inch to half inch coupler to the bung you could glue the bung inside the bottle and hang a cord grip lamp holder inside the bottle from the lighting cable that passes through.
Do you have tapered brings? I have a vase with a neck that narrows from 28mm at the opening, down to just 15mm (at a depth of 40mm). If not, can you make suggestions?
Hi Bill,
I am afraid we don’t have a tapered bung.
Our ones that are smaller than 40mm do not have a second plate under the bung (just a hex nut – 18mm wide). You could whittle down the rubber with a craft knife and replace the Hex nut with a smaller one maybe? The largest of that style is max 34mm though. I guess you could pack this out at the top a bit with something? Not ideal I am afraid but the closest we can get this time. Please do contact the office if you need any more help.
Hi I have an old acid bottle but I would like the bulb to be inverted into the bottle, is that something you can do and if you have solar powered ones ? the inside diameter of the next is 6cms . Regards Clare Futter
Hi Clare,
I’m afraid we don’t have anything like that. Thanks for contacting us though and we will add this to our product development list.

Great resources and information. I was about to buy a kit but i wanted to see what coupler and raiser I can use that is compatible with the bottle bungs.
I want to have the bottle bung then a raiser then the lamp holder, can you please help me work out what is needed.
Thanks,
Ben
Hi Ben,
Yes the coupler goes between the bung and the tube to join them together. The other end of the tube will fit into our lampholders with a half inch entry.
Hi, I have a few bottles I want to use.
However, a couple appear to be between sizes at 18.3mm and 18.5mm. What size bung do you recommend for these?
Hi Adam, We would recommend you use the 19-21mm as the 16-18 is 18mm with the nut fully tightened. The white bung part is made of rubber so you could just shave that down a little with a sharp craft knife, hope this helps.
These are amazing decorating ideas you don’t see in the states very often. Thank you for the inspiration!
Thanks for the kind comment :-)
Hi, with the bottle bungs can you adjust the diameter when the bungs are In place or do you have to set them to a close fit first and then just squeeze them in?
Hi Ian, Yes you have to adjust the diameter first and as you say squeeze them in unless you have access from underneath; in a ceramic base for example.
have you a black bung at 50mm
Hi Gillian,
The 50mm bung comes just in Brass, Chrome & Vintage brass; I am afraid we don’t have a black one.
Hello,
I’m lookin for a bung for a Hendricks Jin bottle. Can you tell me please which one I should get?
Thanks a lot!
Hi Tigran,
If you take a look at our Bottle and Ceramic Table Lamp kits you will find the bungs to put in bottles. Most wine & Gin bottles have around a 20mm opening so our 19-21mm bung in the above kit should fit, maybe just measure the inside of the bottle to check?
have you got a conversion kit for a carboy to lamp please
Dear Maggie,
We do. If you take a look at our Bottle and Ceramic Table Lamp kits you will find all you need :-)
Hello,
I have a bulb holder BC type with a half inch threaded entry. Do you have threaded tube about about 5cm long I can screw into a wooden base and the bulb holder?>
Dear Ken, We do on this page of the website. If you need a base plate we have those too on this page. In a couple of different sizes. You may also find it easier to use our Table Lamp Designing page where you can make up a whole kit (just don’t add a lampholder).
Thanks for your interest and do give us a call on 01223 750153 if you need more help placing your order.
Hi
do you sell full lamp kits to convert a demi john into a table lamp. I’d need bung/bulb holder, flexed cord with plug and switch.
Kind regards
Alison
Dear Alison, We certainly do on this page of the website here
You just need to make your desired choices and work through the kit maker. We do not wire up complete kits there being just too many choices. We do hope though that by having all these options you can design exactly what you want colour & finish wise though. Hope this helps but any more help needed please do give us a call on 01223 750153
My wife has a ceramic figurine with a tall hollow structure which we have seen with a ‘plastic’ lamp-holder attached. The structure is pre drilled to accept a cable. The diameter of the opening is 10mm Do you have a bung that will fit this size please?
Many thanks
Dear Anthony, We certainly do. We will email you a “saved basket” with the parts you need and instructions thanks for getting in touch.
What sizes of bungs do you have and for what prices?
Hi Tom,
Thanks for your question! We have range of 8 different bung sizes, from smallest 14-15mm bung to the largest of 50mm in 3 different metal finishes. Prices vary on the size and finish of the bung.
Best wishes,
Denise
I have a very large carboy, with an opening of 6cm. Do you have a lamp fitting that will fit it?
I am afraid not, currently our biggest bung is 50mm.
Can you attach our side entry kit to a cork/wooden bung in the top of your bottle/vase?
We also have a very useful Blog courtesy of one of our customers on our website for this:
How to make a vase into a lamp
I’m looking for a light fitting that I can screw on to a wine bottle with the light bulb inside the bottle
Sadly we don’t stock anything like that – good luck with the project though!
